Substrate-free sticking and rooting
Clever rooting – sustainable growing
With RCS® 2.0 we have created a completely new, groundbreaking product that combines environmentally friendly, resource-saving and efficient solutions. RCS® 2.0 offers a unique combination of substrate-free rooting in biodegradable paper bags and compact size – innovative, sustainable and efficient!
The substrate-free form and compact size ensure a favourable volume-to-weight ratio. This enables resource-saving transport, significantly reduces packaging material waste and ensures a lower carbon footprint. The young plants packaged in paper bags are ready for immediate use by the customer.
RCS® 2.0 are substrate-free rooted cuttings in paper bags. The machine for producing the paper strips is located on site at Selecte Kenya to ensure reliable production of these sustainable paper strips under efficient conditions.
At the mother plant site in Kenya, the cuttings are rooted in a clean, standardised process without substrate in biodegradable paper bags and reusable trays.
When shipping RCS® 2.0, we do not ship substrates and trays. One bag of RCS 2.0 contains 104 rooted cuttings. One tray holds 144 rooted cuttings, and a MiniRooter® tray holds as many as 286. Up to 10 bags of RCS® 2.0 can be packed into a box of the same size that holds a tray with 144 or 286 rooted cuttings, and the shipping weight is even lower.
Many more plants can be placed per box than with standard rooted cuttings. Each shipping box can hold 24-30 bags (8-10 bags with 104 cuttings per inlay). In addition to higher capacity utilisation, material costs are also significantly lower, as the product is lighter and therefore requires less reinforcement for the cardboard box.
RCS® 2.0 for direct planting into:
> Pump-up liners for large pots
> Different packs, like 6-packs
> Various pots like 10.5 or 12 cm and similar sizes
One particularly successful application is in the production of 6-packs, for example, where a higher success rate and easier processing are achieved. The cultivation period can be shortened by three weeks when using RCS® 2.0 instead of unrooted cuttings, while at the same time improving quality and reducing the failure rate.
